Finally after a long long summer break it was time for the First day of the mixed competition, which took place in Groningen for all teams. With the usual luck on match times, the FBA team had to start at 10:45, which meant a nice early departure from Amsterdam for us. As if this wasn’t enough bad luck, our team which on the NeFUB website shows with 6 men and 5 women, had to show up with 2 men and 3 women instead. Luckily each and every one of these 5 players was motivated and ready to kick some ass, even at 8am when we left from RAI.
Our first match was against Stick2It, who just suffered a loss against our UC Agents the day before. A though match it would be, since they were planning on returning the favor. A quick goal from Stick2It in the 2nd minute woke the Agents and made them focus even more then they already did, which resulted in a reply by Robin 1 minute later. The match got pretty intense and non of the teams really got the upper hand. During the 3rd period, with a 7-4 lead by the Agents, tiredness struck the team and a 2 minute penalty (for having 3 women in the field, instead of the normal 2 men/2 women) put our first victory at a risk. Stick2It pushed some more at the final phase, which paid off with some goals, but luckily our brave Agents managed to secure the win with 7-6. Next match was against the (probably) strongest opponent of the day, Sonics 1. The teams started of pretty equal, but a goal by the opponent was again needed to awaken the real power of the Agents. It was again Robin who repaid them 1 minute later. The first period then ended with 2 incredibly nice goals by Martine from a nearly impossible angle and we went into the 2nd period with a 3-1 lead. Unfortunately the lack of a real break between the first 2 matches (due to referee-duties) and the lack of changes, started to show as the team grew more tired. The fought for every remaining second, but couldn’t prevent the loss with 5-12 in the end. After a real break for us it was time to try our strength against the team of Utrecht 2. Based on earlier results by both teams, we figured this one should be possible to win, though Utrecht wasn’t going to give it up that easily. They started the match with some heavy pressure and opened the score after 1 minute. This resulted in some more chaos at our team, which gave Utrecht a chance to push and take the lead with 0-4 after 6 minutes of the match. Second period the Agents found some of their strength back and Robin managed to score 2 goals, hoping for a come-back. Sadly during the third period Utrecht shattered that hope by scoring 2 more goals, resulting in a 2-6 loss for our team. Last match of the day was against Hot Shots 4. As the Agents they also suffered from a lack of players to change with (they didn’t have a single change that day) and the tiredness was visible on both sides. Yet, the Agents were looking for a score to compensate for the last loss and went in with everything they got. After 29sec the first goal was made by Robin and the hunt for a monster-score was on. First period ended in a 5-1 lead and they hunger for more was visible in the eyes of the Agents. As much as the goals lifted the spirits of the tired Agents, it made the Hot Shots feel even more tired and they tried to fight with all they had, but just couldn’t match their opponent any more. At the end of the second period it was 10-1 for our team, with 20 more minutes to go. During the third period Hot Shots tried to change the game by taking more risk and putting more power on the attack. This seemed to pay off as they got 3 more goals. Unfortunately the Agents didn’t stop their attack either and got 4 more goals in this same period, resulting in a 14-4 win for our brave heroes! All in all it was a great day, with lots of fun and laughs, some amazing goals and 2 wins up in the far north. Next time we hope to strike with a somewhat bigger team in full force, when we play in Sneek, to fight for that top-spot still. A big congrats for Robin, Tyas, Laura, Cynthia and Martine for their strength and stamina on such a long day... |
