Last Saturday the ladies team booked the first triumph in what looks to become an extremely successful season for the Agents: we became champions of the second division! Already before the last matches of this season are played, we have built up such a lead in the competition that the number two, UFC Groningen, have no more chance to catch up.

The decisive match took place last weekend in Groningen. We had to beat UFC Groningen, who were then only three points behind us, in order to secure our leadership in the competition. Since we had already lost one match against them - in fact the only match we lost this whole season - a win for them in the current match and the ensuing draw in points would put them in the lead on the basis of ‘onderling resultaat’. Therefore we were determined to go all out and secure the championship in this match, in order to not let everything hang on the last match.

The match turned out to be a blood-curdling one. In the first period, we were not playing our best game, and we let Groningen score twice. As a result we arrived at the first break looking at a 2-0 arrears. However, we regained ourselves during the second period, after a powerful shot right into the net from Robyn, who was playing a terrific match. Before the end of the second period we managed to fight back to a 2-2 draw after an own goal from Groningen.

Thus the last 20 minutes were decisive. Only one minute into the third period we scored our third goal, once again through a great shot by Robyn. In this phase of the game we took the upper hand, and soon scored three more goals, from the hands of Christina, Erinn and Lorna. However, Groningen did not buckle easily. Within two minutes they scored two goals, keeping all possibilities open with a 2-goal arrears and seven minutes left to play. In an ultimate attempt to fight back to a draw, they took out their goalie, but we quickly took advantage of the situation with a backhand shot into the open net. With only a couple of minutes left to play, our lead proved to be sufficient; and with the end score of 4-7 our championship of the second division was secured.
