FB Agents finish 2nd in Euro Floorball Cup qualification

The Dutch men’s champions, FB Agents from Amsterdam, managed to seize the runner-up position in the qualification round of the Euro Floorball Cup, western division, staged in Oslo, Norway, August 25 – 29. The team finished just two points behind the Norwegian champions Tunet IBK. “An amazing effort by an amazing team”, said team coach Ulrik Jonsson.

With only one out of five competing teams qualifying for the final round – to be played in Latvia in October – Agents were facing a hard task needing to beat not only the Norwegian champions, but also the French, Spanish and Italian title holders.

Agents entered the tournament on the second day of play, facing the IFK Paris from France. The French team was clearly the strongest of the two in the first period, but failed to score on Klas Bennergard, Agents’ hard fighting keeper, who would prove to be Agents’ MVP in the tournament and selected as the competitions best goalkeeper.

In the second period, Agents improved their game and managed to score twice, clearly adding to the frustration of the French team.  In the third period, the team from Paris were finally able to score, but at that point Agents were already up by three, and when the final whistle blew, Agents had won 6-3.

On the third day of the tournament, Agents faced Tunet IBK, a team which proved to be too difficult a challenge. Agents fought hard and definitely improved throughout the game, but the opposing team in the end won quite easily (3-15).

Facing CUF Leganes only eight man strong lineup might have seemed as an easy task, for the Agents’ third match of the tournament. However, although the Agents took a two goal lead in the first period, CUF Leganes were able to fight back, and, just 9 seconds into the third period, equalize the game. With a final push, Agents were able to come back an score two goals, winning the game 4-2.

The Agents’ final game of the tournament was also their easiest. The Italian team were never able to threaten the Dutch champions and Agents won quite comfortably, 7-3, securing the runner-up position in the tournament.
