After all the Christmas and New Year's parties of the past weeks it was time to get serious again last Saturday in Nijmegen. Our second last match in the preliminaries was against the Hot Shots from Nijmegen and even though we weren't able to make it to the top 5 anymore, we wanted to have a good game and show our worth. Everyone was happy to be able to play again after such a long break and this showed in our number of players; we were able to set up two complete line-ups for the first time this season. Our game started off a bit cautious; we had to get used to the game and to each other again and we were reluctant to take initiative. It was mostly due to Cynthia's excellent keeping that we kept the damage in the first period limited to a 0-1 arrears. During the second period, our play improved a great deal and the two teams were matched in strength. Although Hot Shots soon scored their second goal, we managed to get back to 2-2 and, reflecting the division of powers on the field, the score was drawn at the end of the second period. When the third period brought along another goal for us, we started to believe that we might actually be going to win over this team, that theoretically was much stronger than us. We fought very hard and succeeded to keep our lead until the very last moments of the game. Then the tables turned against us, and the Hot Shots not only managed right before the end of the game to get even, they moreover pulled off the winning goal with only 12 seconds left on the clock, and thereby settled the end result at 3-4. It was a severe disappointment to lose after having been in the lead right until the very last stage of the game. Although we had started the game without any expectations, we had become very dedicated to win over the course of it. But in any case we presented our audience with a gripping game and an attractive performance. Moreover, we showed that we have a great fighting spirit in us and this promises something very good for the upcoming play-offs. Let's try to repeat our achievement of last year and come first in our league; last Saturday we showed that we've got what it takes!
